Karl, by the way it is Steve. I was referring to your earlier post above when you were talking about floor boards. I have always noticed the wear on wood where the foot traffic is heavy. The paint on stain is worn off, there might be wear on the wood itself showing especially on stair treads. If it were a shop floor, then maybe darkened floor from oil, dirt and grease.
