Living on the edge of a knife...

And now, for something completely different, my version of the famous Bowie Knife.

As a teenager, I have always been fascinated by knives. Don't know why, but I was. At the boy scouts we always had a knife for al sorts of purposes. So later in my twenties, still a scout leader, ( was till my late forties.. ) I wanted to make my own. After some less succeeded ones, I finally came up with this one. It was made out of an old large file. The steel is hard and tough which made it ideal for this. . The shape was formed by grinding , sanding and polishing for hours and hours...

The handle was made of gnarled boxwood. Even then it was one of my favorite woods. The blade runs all the way through it and is fixed by a threaded hole in the ending brass part. The hand protecting piece ( don't know the proper word for it ) is brass as well.
