Barrels and Crates

I have never really found the secret to getting good results on wooden barrels or crates. Could some of the experts here share their specific secrets?

Thanks, Keith

Karl...you're up buddy! Karl details the finest wood barrels and crates ever...The only thing I can contribute Keith is on the crates...change up the base color and finish so they don't all look the same unless designed as such, as in a stack of the same crates. I use base colors of brown, tan, black, white, green etc.
  • Old or new.....old...gray base.....light brown dry brush.....light gray over that dry brushed....then dust it down with some gray pastel...
  • The above suggestions are very good for the wood. As for barrels I use a Prismacolor pencil to color the bands on wood barrels. I've never been able to use a paint brush to neatly paint the bands. The pencils come in several different shade4s of "rust". I got mine at either Michael's or Hobby Lobby, I can't remember.
