  • Looking great jerry, I also love that peel effect.
It's 'sharp' and distinctive, just the way a peel should be.
    Nice work.

  • It is about time you do something beside sifting sand. .............Carl........
  • Oh two against one. Glad you noticed I did something!! Its possible it might get better in the coming weeks.

    Jerry
  • Not much to report but the doors are done for the front of the EH.

And I finally after many attempts got my hinged window to work and fit!! I did not make the mullions yet.

Yes Karl I kept at it until they were right!!

Now to make the rest of them.

  • Hinged windows! Impressive.
  • Thanks Karl for your help on those windows.

Ed & Bryan thanks for looking in its appreciated.

    Jerry
  • Nice peeling on the doors. Not artificial at all.
  • Thanks Robert much appreciated.

    Jerry
  • Great peeling paint effect on the doors. Which technique did you use? Great stuff.
  • Great progress Jerry. The paint peel on the doors and windows looks great. Your overall construction is very precise, so important on a project like this...its all about fit and finish!
  • Thanks Joel, Ed & Ken great to have the nice comments.
Just using the old Chuck Doan way of doing it.
If you need the how to I can post it for you.

    Jerry
  • Jerry,

I've been enjoying this build for some time now.
If you could post the Chuck Doan way of doing the "paint peel" effect I for one would appreciate it. I like his method and your way of interpreting/applying it because it shows weathering that has just begun on an otherwise maintained structure.

  • Jerry. That is looking so good great work. ...........Carl............
  • Hey Carl thanks its really appreciated!

    Jerry
  • Fantastic Jerry! Great progress. Love the color
  • Jerry,

As Brett said, "Love the color." In fact I had been meaning to ask you how you achieved the look of the lightly tinted unweathered interior side of the wood with the more weathered look on the exterior side? It is very effective and realistic and something I'd like to learn how to do.

  • Thanks Brett a very nice compliment.

Ed we were at the beach today with the dog it was 58 here. God I'm sweating! Thanks for looking.

Dave I use 2x12 on the interior its Minwax Golden Oak I lay the strip down on newspaper and take a rag an just start at the top and go down the strip if there's two much stain its gets on the paper instead of the other side.
On the exterior I used Hunters Medium Brown and use a dapper and just did the same way.
You might get a little on the other side but if rub it off right away with your finger its fine. Hope that helps.

    Jerry
  • A very fine construction job. All the joints are neat and squared. Lots of little spaces on the framing to place clutter.
  • Jerry,

Thanks for passing on those staining tips. I'll be testing them soon after I pick up some Minwax and Hunters.
